West Salem students are not strangers to the color orange, but on Wednesday, October 25 their orange took on a whole new meaning. “In honor of Unity Day, we wanted to help bring awareness to bullying and the impact it has on student’s lives,” said Tayler Jones, an active leader of West Salem High School’s Youth Frontiers Leadership Council.

The YFLC  is a group composed of Seniors who lead by example throughout different clubs, sports, classes, or in the community. The group organized the Unity Day events at the high school this year. For example, the student body gathered outside the gymnasium holding a sign that read, “Compassion Lives Here!” while Officer Anthony Lamore of the West Salem Police Department took a drone photo.

For the past several years, West Salem School District has been recognized for their involvement in Unity Day to bring awareness to bullying. In fact, Jennifer Livingston from News 8 in La Crosse even said: “Every year, they [West Salem] step up on Unity Day.”
